Top Search Trends: Week ending Friday August 5, 2011

Topping our trending search terms this week were two baseball giveaways: the Roberto Alomar bobblehead, and the Frank Thomas statue. The commemorative bobblehead was given out at a Toronto Blue Jays game on July 31st, to the first 20,000 people arriving at the game. Before the game started, there was a ceremony celebrating Alomar’s accomplishments with the club and his No. 12 jersey was retired. On the same day, former Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas’ accomplishments were celebrated with the unveiling of a life-size statue in the outfield concourse. The first 20,000 fans at that game received a smaller version of the statue as a giveaway. It seems the folks who couldn’t attend the game went directly to eBay to see if they could get their hands on one!

Kansas Jubilee eBay to eCommerce

Kansas Jubilee eBay to eCommerce

What is the Kansas Jubilee and why should you attend?  The Kansas Jubilee is an up-and-coming eCommerce event that started in 2008 and is growing into a gathering of exceptional eCommerce talent covering multi-venues. From eBay to eCommerce is the 2011 theme and there will be experts there to teach about selling on Amazon, Bonanza, Addoway and your own website, as well as generous representation from eBay including the famous Uncle Griff himself!  Here are all the details and we would love to meet you there!

The Kansas Jubilee, eBay to eCommerce Conference is a seller to seller working conference held at Fort Hays State University (FHSU) Memorial Union in Hays, KS 67601.  It is supported by the FHSU COBL (College of Business and Leadership) and the Kansas Small Business Development Center.
The Kansas Jubilee,  eBay to eCommerce  Conference, Sept 30/Oct 1 is at Fort Hays State University Memorial Union Conference Center (FHSU).  This will be a two day event of seminars, workshops and round tables focused on Education, Networking and Community. We have a page set up with primary information on Facebook  Kansas Jubilee.     The registration website is Kansas Jubilee Registration  and registration went live on July 25.  Our target is micro sellers who are looking to start or expand a business and business builders.  To that end there will be two tracks of learning:  1. Beginner/Inexperienced sellers. 2. Business builders and entrepreneurs. We are offering Social Networking, Selling on multiple platforms and basic of selling  information.
We held a Jubilee in 2008 and it was a lot of fun and had good response. The Jubilee is supported by eBay.  Jim “Griff” Griffith was here and several eBay staff members to present workshops. Griff is already on the calendar for this one too and is bringing staff members with him again.
This is a regional conference and we have seller experts from eBay, Amazon, Bonanza, Addoway as well as eCommerce and Social Networking, who come in from all over the USA to give workshops/Seminars and participate in round table discussions . Our goal is to provide the best possible information to registrants in a community setting of networking and interaction.
Danni Ackerman, Shawna Seigel, Kathy Simpson, Byran Goodman & Jason Smith (AKA ‘Thrifting With the Boys’), Cliff Ennico, Judy Oglesby, Uncle Joe Adamson, and Fredrick Nijm are a few people who will present workshops and be active in the roundtable discussions.
This is an important conference as it is rural in nature and part of the focus is show how eBay and eCommerce can assist in rural economic development.  Most of rural America is just now getting high speed internet so it opens up new markets for eCommerce and eCommerce seller.

Fort Hays State University (FHSU) is a public, co-educational regents university located in Hays, Kansas. It is the fourth-largest of the six state universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents, with an enrollment of approximately 11,200 students (4,000 undergraduate, 1,200 graduate, and 6,000 online students in China).

Our sponsors will participate in roundtables to further the learning experience for the registrants.  In other words we want our sponsors to be able to explain the use and need their product fills (without it being an advertisement).  We are selective about who we are asking to sponsor the event.  We are grass roots and our goal is to assist our non-corporate speakers to make the trip–we are not paying any speaker honorarium fees.  Our venue capacity is capped at 200 paid registrations plus the sponsors and speakers so this will be an intimate setting with a lot of person-to-person and networking time. The workshops will take place in break-out rooms rather than one central location.
In addition we are asking our sponsors to assist in promoting the Kansas Jubilee through any avenues they might have to give it exposure.  Sponsors may provide materials for the gift bags, have information through hand-outs and participate in the Round Table discussions.  There will be exposure on our website and and other materials that will be distributed to our registrants.
Please take time to like us on Facebook Kansas Jubilee  and visit the Kansas Jubilee Website

eBay Updates Fashion categories for Buyers

Just found this in my messages so if you are a buyer in eBay’s Fashion categories – get ready for a few changes!

Hi katskloset,

At eBay Fashion, we’re focused on making eBay a style destination, where you’ll find great fashion at great prices. And to make your shopping experience as easy and enjoyable as possible, we’re making a few changes.

Starting April 4, you’ll notice that some of our Clothing, Shoes & Accessories categories will be removed, added, or moved to a new place. Shopping filters (such as Brand, Style, Size, Color, etc.) will also be updated. We’re making these improvements so you can more quickly find the items you’re searching for.

To enable the improvements, we’re also making adjustments to the following:

  • Saved Searches – As a result of the adjustments, some of your saved searches for Clothing, Shoes & Accessories may not work properly. They’ll either no longer run, or may return incorrect results, especially if you’ve set up filters (Brand, Style, Size, Color, etc.) with your saved search. So after April 4, you’ll want to update your saved search queries to ensure that they’ll continue to run.
  • Shopping Profiles – Starting March 30, all shopping profiles (which enable you to create and save a set of preferences) will be temporarily unavailable. During this time, we’ll be making key enhancements requested by our community of shoppers. We expect the improved profiles to be available again in mid-spring.
  • Fashion Landing Pages – Starting March 30, the updated fashion search pages we launched last year will be unavailable for approximately two weeks. During that time, you’ll be automatically redirected to our standard eBay search experience, where you’ll still find the same selection.

We thank you for your patience and apologize for any shopping inconveniences. If you have any questions or feedback you’d like to share, please email us at

eBay Updates Buyer Protection and Privacy Policies Effective June 20

From eBay Messages:

Updates to the eBay Buyer Protection and Privacy Policies

Dear katskloset,

We are making updates to the eBay Buyer Protection Policy, as well as the eBay Privacy Policy, and would like to make sure you are aware of the changes. These updates go into effect for existing customers on June 20.

eBay Buyer Protection
In the event you need help with a purchase on eBay, we’ve got you covered. eBay Buyer Protection is fast, easy, and free, and covers the purchase price of an item plus original shipping when buyers and sellers need eBay to step in to help resolve a problem with an item not received or not as described in the listing.

Here are a few important updates to the eBay Buyer Protection Policy:
To make sure returned items are delivered correctly, sellers are required to maintain a valid and current return address on file. You can update your return address online via My eBay by selecting Account > Addresses, then clicking Change next to the Primary return address field.
For items that are event tickets listed under the Tickets category, a case may be opened until 7 days after the event date, even if that’s more than 45 days from purchase date.
If an item is re-shipped after being received at the address in the Order details page or PayPal Transaction Details page, it won’t be eligible for eBay Buyer Protection Policy coverage.
We reserve the right to suspend a buyer’s coverage under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy if we suspect that buyer is colluding with a seller to misdeclare the value or type of an item for evading customs fees.
In order to be protected from a case when a buyer reports an item was not received, sellers must provide valid delivery confirmation before the case is escalated to eBay for a final decision.
If the buyer successfully appeals a case and receives a refund from eBay, and the seller’s refund failed, was canceled, or did not complete after the case was closed, the seller will be required to reimburse eBay.
To help buyers and sellers resolve a case, eBay may provide or give them access to each other’s name, user ID, email address, other contact information, and other information relating to the case, including any relevant documentation obtained from a third party.
When deciding a case, eBay may review item details, messages between the buyer and seller in eBay Messages, seller responses to questions, and other sources of information related to the case.
eBay Privacy Policy
eBay has always believed in the importance of clear, concise, and transparent privacy policies and practices. We are updating the Privacy Policy to provide even greater clarity regarding management of our customers’ personal information on, as well as the tools and applications we provide.
We are introducing and implementing Binding Corporate Rules, which are a strict set of rules and procedures that ensure a consistent and high standard of protection for individuals’ personal information.
The scope of the policy has been expanded so that it is clear that the commitments made also apply to the tools, applications, and services eBay provides beyond its websites.
We have provided more detail to give customers a better understanding of how we use data to ensure the integrity of our site, and in the event we need to contact you regarding a transaction.
We may use third-party identity services such as Facebook Connect to enable you to sign-on to eBay, and provide tools that will enable you to use data you have collected on other sites to improve your shopping experience on eBay.
You can find the new Privacy Policy here. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us. While we do everything possible to ensure open and transparent privacy practices, if you choose not to accept the new terms, visit this page for further direction.

Thank you for being a part of the eBay community.
